Zazie for Rima Fonti / Textile Designer / Hand-Painted and Stamped Fabric

A fabric is never neutral. It takes the gesture of the hand that paints it, the light of the room in which it lives, the memory of whoever touches it. In Zazie's fabrics every motif is born by hand — one brushstroke at a time, on linen, cotton, hemp. No pattern is repeated twice, because the brush will not allow it.

Linen, cotton, hemp — fibres that hold colour

Natural fibres are not a stylistic choice. They are a technical one. Linen has a close weave that absorbs pigment evenly. Cotton receives colour with softness. Hemp gives the pigment back with the roughness that belongs to it — ideal for pieces that must withstand daily use. Each fibre has its own signature motif, its own brush, its own drying time.

The dialogue with Zazie in Roma

No catalogue is definitive. The catalogue you see on these pages is an inspiration — the silhouettes and motifs Zazie has already drawn for others. For your piece the dialogue begins again from the beginning: motif, colours, dimensions, choice of fibre. Zazie draws alongside you and hand-makes what emerges from the exchange.

Four lines, one signature

Zazie's hand-painted fabrics unfold in four directions: Wall Hangings & Bedcovers — pieces to hang and bedcovers, cut to the measurements of your wall or bed. Placemats & Tablecloths — placemats and tablecloths for the table, motifs in conversation with your chosen dinner service. Cushions — cushions with removable covers, for sofas or the floor. Tessuto al metro — raw yardage, for those who want to reupholster an armchair, sew a curtain, tailor a dress.

Why hand-painted, not printed

The difference between a hand-painted fabric and a printed one is not only the price. It is the depth of the colour — the pigment sinks into the fibre rather than sitting on the surface. It is the intentional imperfection — no mechanical repetition, every motif breathes. It is the resistance across time — a hand-painted fabric ages with grace; a printed one fades.

How to commission

Write to contact@rimafonti.com with the idea (a photograph of the room, the piece you have in mind, the motif that inspires you). Zazie replies within 48 hours with a first visual proposal. The finished piece arrives 3-6 weeks after confirmation, with the final invoice on completion.
