Imprinting the mark in the soap paste
A precise timing — when the matter is soft enough to accept the bas-relief without flowing, and firm enough not to lose it during curing. A gesture that the four soap works of Salon-de-Provence sanctioned by the privilege of Louis XIV have kept since the 17th century : soap, cooked in the open cauldron, received on its four sides the producer's signature and the legend « extra pur ».
Material and composition
Die in brass (laiton) with 2 mm relief, traditional copper alloy of French engraving. Engraved with a conical tungsten carbide cutter rotating at 39,500 rpm, precision to 1/100 of a millimetre — the cutter tip is measured under a microscope. Brass base 40 × 40 × 10 mm standard, custom formats on request.
Handle in varnished wood with gold nail at the end to precisely adjust positioning when pressing on the soap paste.
Compatible with the mica technique : mineral pigment applied to the punch before striking, leaving a pearlescent reflection in the signature.
Typical applications
Certified organic soap works
Cosmos Organic, Ecocert — the mark guarantees the artisan origin and certification of the product.
Naked-soap ateliers
Unwrapped soap where the punch replaces paper, plastic and ink. An identity that gives itself, is not preserved — that dissolves with use.
Essential-water distilleries
Marking of solid shampoo bars, deodorant sticks, biocosmetic solid products.
Hammam and traditional rites
Aleppo soap, beldi black soap, traditional Marseille soap — where the mark is part of the ritual.
Botanical perfumeries
Master perfumer's signature on artisan preparations.
