At Agrippina’s banquets, historians say, there was little talking and much watching. Senators, generals, conspirators, awkward relatives: all seated at the same table, all calculating. The straw-coloured linen tablecloth held it all together — neutral at the centre, where the plates went, with two green stripes running along the long sides marking the borders of the territory. It was a tablecloth, but also a map.
Two thousand years later, a real gathering still works the same way. The centre belongs to the plates, the edges to the conversation, and in between you decide the rhythm of the afternoon. The Agrippina Tablecloth is Italian linen, handmade in three sizes — 4 for intimate evenings, 8 for friends, 16 for when you want to overdo it.
