The vase is one of the oldest forms in ceramics: thrown on the wheel or hand-modelled, in earthenware or stoneware. First firing at bisque, then glazing — transparent, matte, or reactive — and a second firing at high temperature.
Reactive glazes contain metal oxides (copper, iron, cobalt) that migrate during fusion: the final colour depends on the thickness applied, the kiln’s hot spot, the neighbouring pieces in the same firing. No two pieces are alike.
